gail-shaw-clemons-correspondances-2
Gail Shaw-Clemons — Correspondances #2

My practice involves the Monotype printmaking process. !00% rag paper is printed on both sides and then manipulated to create relief forms and three-dimensional sculptures. Color and form are what stands out most in my work. The use of the rainbow roll printmaking technique allows me to maximize my color schemes as I continue to push the boundaries of printmaking. I am deeply process oriented and I want the process to remain visible and present for the viewer. Rather than prompting the question, “What does this mean”?’ I hope the work instead invites, “How was this made?”. I am less interested in prescribing meaning than in allowing space for individual interpretation. Through color, pattern and form I aim to evoke sensation, memory, déjà vu, dreams and joy, without relying on dense intellectual language. Being fully present in the moment of looking matters most to me. If the work can touch something in your soul, spark curiosity, and create a feeling, then it has done its job.
