Before text messages existed, we waited for a letter to arrive or for a postcard from friends on vacation. These postcards bore traces of their journey or smudged ink. Sometimes even the sender’s name was missing, and there are some mysteries about their authors that I’ve never solved. The scenes I’ve drawn are inspired by works by the Finnish-Swedish artist Elin Danielsson Gambogi (1861–1919), whom few people know today.
