Born in the Netherlands, now living in Sweden.
I have been drawing since I was a child, drawing is my most important tool and I love that! Started as an artist in the eighties. In the ninethies I became an actor for 15 years. Moving to Sweden in 2014 made me want to work again as an artist.
I missed drawing and painting. The iPad gave me the opportunity to work again without the physical difficulties I would have had working in real which is difficult for me nowadays. Drawing on a computer was something I always found exciting and fascinating. In the eighties I had my first exhibition with computer-drawings. And I have been using the computer to make sketches and designs for my paintings, already since I started my career.
Discovering to draw/paint on an iPad was very interesting, so enjoyable that I feel totally free. All came together! Paint and brushes were never my favourite material. Pencil, dry needle, etching, scratching etc. was always my preferred way of expressing myself. Finding out that the surface of an iPad is hard and solid: I can paint with a pencil !
Mostly my work starts with a photograph I make myself or find on internet. A subject that touches me can inspire me to make a fast sketch. Then I can see if it is interesting to go on with. The photographic element is usually just a part of the composition. I have trouble to draw out of my head. This mentioned, I leave the picture alone and use my sketch to start with a new work. The sense of light, the mood, the colours, the feeling of a painting does not come easily: It appears by working, experience and chance and every day.
