I am interested in the idea of collections, of ideas and things. I think we, as artists, create worlds that mimic the outside, trying to make sense out of chaos. I am not interested at all in perfection but rather in the gulf between what we imagine and what actually happens. I think mistakes are worthy of exploration. It’s as simple as seeing what happens when you put energy into something- but without expectation.

Making the work is a chance to take a risk- my involvement happens when I collaborate with the materials and the viewer steps into that collaboration when the work goes into the world. A sort of gift-giving occurs, I don’t know what it is going to be, but the work always gives a gift back to me. In my work I am interested in investigating the meaning of change, how in art we get a chance to make or take a snapshot of a moment thereby arresting that change. I like the idea of freeing the materials of having to be anything other than what their inherent qualities are and thereby being free to change- or just to be. It is natural to look for narratives in artwork- as it is our human instinct to narrate. It is my hope that there is enough space in my work for several narratives to exist.
