There we enjoyed this beautiful city without the usual crowds as well as the surrounding countryside. The initiative for this road trip through Europe however was an amazing six day long concert series held in a small town about 30 minutes outside Siena called Asciano. The majority of the concerts were held in a 12th century church led \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"artwork-description__description artwork-description__description--more body--m\"\u003eby the famous Belgian conductor Philippe Herreweghe and his Collegium Vocale Crete Senesi. We drove back and forth between Siena and Asciano, arriving at day and leaving for our return to Siena in the evening. At a bend in the road I was struck by a large, old building in the company of a grove of cypress trees. The image captivated me, reinforced by our daily visits by day and again at night.
