In a contemporary landscape dominated by the threat of the digital, reasserting unique human markings and tactile residues is a vital way to push back against generative digital tools that erase the human hand and the certainty of human presence.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMy practice sits at the intersection of design and art, using specialized printmaking techniques on fabric and paper—such as screen printing, Risograph, and pochoir—to investigate adornment as a tactile residue. I see these graphic markings as direct evidence of human presence across different geographies. Adornment is a vital human language used to communicate our place in the world: how we see ourselves, how we want others to see us, and ultimately, how we connect with other human beings. Inspired by fashion, graphic design, and the Pattern and Decoration movement, I explore this material vocabulary to mark surfaces, layer identity, and link fleeting memories to tangible objects. Through intentional layering and repetition, I build up surfaces to create visual rhythm, exploring cross-sensory translations, generational memories, and handwriting. My work examines adornment as both a collective tradition that binds us together and an individual timestamp that defines our unique presence, using the physical substrate to anchor memory and project a distinct human mark into a rapidly digitizing world.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eFrom AWINDOW is my ongoing series of screenprint monotypes on fabric that offers an intimate glimpse into the profound connection between myself and my studio. The work originates from my studio, AWINDOW, a cherished space that boasts breathtaking views and spectacular daily sunsets. These natural spectacles, experienced from a place of personal happiness and belonging, serve as the primary subject and emotional catalyst for the work. To capture these fleeting atmospheric shifts, I use a screenprint monotype technique to translate the photos I take of these sunsets—a process defined entirely by speed. Because I must draw directly onto the mesh of the screen and pull the print before the ink dries and clogs the screen, the medium demands a rapid, decisive hand. This urgency mirrors the \"snapshot\" nature of the original photographs; both the camera and the screen act as tools for freezing a phenomenon that is constantly in flux.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe resulting monotypes function as an immediate, physical timestamp, acting as direct evidence of presence in a specific time and space of my studio. Presented in the form of a postcard, the work functions as a direct medium of connection and perception, echoing the simple sentiment of “wish you were here”—a desire for others to witness the beauty encountered daily from the window and create connection. My studio's name is a deliberate choice, proposing a way of seeing: a perspective, a filter, and a frame. This concept is underscored by the historical understanding of the window as an architectural device—not merely for letting light in, but for focusing observation and concentrating the gaze by reducing the field to a detail.
