My work is often centred around silkscreen printing from drawn images and made pattern. I am interested in the interaction of the layers of the matrix, meaning that despite making use of an editioning process, my work is always created as a series of one of a kind monoprints. I also use mixed media, and collage approaches, often incorporate hand and machine stitching or embroidered manipulations on paper and fabrics. My work is concerned with the interplay between gestural marks and hard edge shapes or the graphic, and I particularly look for opportunities to create visual contrasts.

I am influenced by artists like Helen Frankenthaler, Bridget Riley, and Annie Albers, although, having taught Art for years my art interests are vast and varied. My work focuses on colour relationships and rhythm, often delving into a visual theme that has caught my attention. The process of making is at the centre of the work, highlighting the importance of touch in creativity. This is informed by my recent scholarly writing for Poat Graduate studies at Leeds University, which emphasised the tactile nature of artistic expression and has become progressively important as I shy away from AI art and embrace artist as maker.
