Description

Love Me or Die (2019, ink on paper, 21x29 cm each) is a series of drawings based on intimate photographic self-portraits shared with the artist’s partner.

Lucrezia lends her moments of intimacy as a means of bringing together a narrative of herself through the exposure of her body and her performance.

The intention is to replicate through the rapid gesture of the strokes a moment of self intimacy, rather than portraying the nudity of the female body. The type of paper the artist developed these drawings in appears to be ripped from a notebook, impregnating the images with the same notion of spontaneity as the selfies are taken.

Love Me Forever, Love Me Again (2020, ink on paper, 21x29 cm each).

Lucrezia's practice focuses on self-representation of the female body and the attempt to desexualise it. A process that includes the switch from the male gaze to the female one.

The series of ink drawings Love Me or Die (previous image) were born from selfies taken to be shared with her partner. Portraying intimate parts of the body, the shots frame them in the same way the iPhone does, never showing the face. They incorporate the intention that most of the women unconsciously have of being loved by “giving” their bodies as a tribute to the Other. On the contrary, the recent Love Me Forever, Love Me Again, works as a re-appropriation of one’s body. It portrays the act of getting naked, in front of the mirror or the camera, sharing an intimate moment with your own self.

It is the Other Who Leaves, it is I Who Remains (2021, pencil and watercolour on paper, 30x20 each).

From self-representation and self-exploration of intimate expressions of her own love life,  Lucrezia combines  themes such as guilt, pain, pleasure and constructions on femininity and the Self through drawing and painting.
