“Add on relief printmaking” (most often, for the last 25 years involving my etching press) on paper and cloth is the “unifying” activity for almost all of my work- most often “landing on” handmade books, quilts, even flourcloth towels (and tea cozies and place card/books for gatherings around my huge kitchen table :-). In the past I did a fair amount of calligraphy (Uncial). As my “Essential Tremor” has had a major impact on that, I have been exploring the use of many fonts in different sizes and even colors, on my computer. A work-changing and accidental discovery years ago was that I could run many of the kinds of handmade paper that I was using in bookmaking, through my ancient photocopier! Though size-limited, that has enabled me to, for example, copy calligraphy onto many kinds of gorgeous paper which cannot “accommodate” wet ink. Learning from a friend to use “freezer paper” onto which I have drawn lines before ironing it on to simple bleached muslin, has made possible calligraphy with textile ink on quilts, hangings, etc.
