The psychedelic Nineties shaped me — back then there was a lot of symmetry in music videos. Mandalas fascinated me. I perceive the world as fully alive; I have the feeling that demons or something have accompanied me since those psychedelic trips. I don’t experience nature only as a pleasant Sunday walk through a beautiful landscape, but also as mystery and danger. I have always been drawn to symmetrical compositions, although I was often discouraged from pursuing them. I don’t draw a strong distinction between the artificial and the natural — to me they are the same. I like complex structures with a multitude of details, for example thickets. I usually photograph blind, but I’ve found that if something is present, it keeps revealing itself — like
that devil, for instance. I use external light sources that give me the possibility to uncover images that are not normally visible. I seek out those bleak, neglected places; I like climbing plants as they swallow human creations. I like the night, and so on...
