In my current work “CATLADY“ Shakespeare’s Hamlet is reinterpreted from a feline perspective. Ophelia—who, in the original play, meets a tragic end after being abandoned and left dependent on her father and Hamlet—is embodied in this performance by an electric toy dog.

Unlike in the original, this lapdog is urged to emancipate itself—to become independent, like a cat, and forge its own path.

The artwork engages with a reflection on the (historical) marginalization of women in society and the visual arts. It does so against the backdrop of outdated patriarchal structures and the origins of feminism—themes that remain highly relevant today.
