The focus of my work is on the conceptual, photographic PORTRAIT.
In addition to long-term projects, I also create shorter conceptual series.
I began the PHOTOGRAPHERS series 30 years ago. The series currently consists of 118 portraits of internationally renowned photographers and two book publications. To be continued.
eyes I gazes is the title of another series. Also begun 30 years ago, the work consists of over 400 portraits, photographed in brief individual sessions with actors and directors during the Berlinale. To be continued.
In 2019, I photographed young women in their early 30s. They aren’t interested in beauty ideals; they work with their bodies, tattoos, piercings, and striking eyebrows—they are strong and free: MODERN QUEENS.
In 2024, I explored roles and gender assignments in a series of black-and-white portraits. In PULL_OVER, a black turtleneck took on the role of a stage.
In 2024/25, I photographed 20 German-Vietnamese men and women for the German Embassy in Hanoi and the Goethe-Institut Hanoi who live in Germany and are very successful here. A project marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and Vietnam in 2025. VIET-DUC: 20 Faces, 20 Stories.
Over the years, my approach has become increasingly radical and minimalist. I work with natural light and staged poses that encourage concentration and, at best, reveal something for the fraction of a second. I focus on the eyes and want the subjects to look at the viewer directly from within the image. That is the signature of my work. In every portrait, I create many recurring themes, which make differences visible.
