Painting between illusion and material, between idea and incarnation is, I believe, an approach that has the potential to reflect on the condition of our times. Contemporary visual culture is defined by digital aesthetics, which is based on illusion and distracts attention from material reality. This can lead to detachment from reality, which is dangerous on so many levels. I have introduced into my life little escapes into nature in order to maintain my mental health. These explorations have become exercises of thought and ways to find inspiration. In my work I try to connect aspects of contemporary human existence with elements from nature in order to transcend the time limits of human existence and to reconnect with a form of natural existence. In my paintings I try to capture a materialistic approach to ideas which can only be visual. Lately, I have shifted my focus to urban existence. My most recent paintings explore the coexistence of parallel spheres present in urban spaces: contemporary existence, heritage, nature and remembrance. I am charmed by the old trees in the city which bear the memory of old times, old systems. My paintings of tree bark are metaphors for the connection between time and matter. I also search for other details of material reality which can lead to hidden meanings and become paintings reflecting aspects of contemporary life.
