Biography
Carole Pueo is a French painter. She lives and works in Burgundy.She studied at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Dijon, followed by a university program in contemporary art history. Her influences are many, ranging from cinematic imagery to advertising, magazines, and fashion. She also draws inspiration from art history — in the form of a tattoo or a t-shirt (Klimt’s The Kiss, Magritte’s The Lovers, MC Escher’s patterns, Pop Art...) — or from music stars, or simply a song. “I like the idea of a ‘small mythology of the everyday’ — those fleeting, fragile, and intangible little things and the poetry they evoke.” She disrupts the conventions of classical portraiture and conceives her portraits of women as new icons of femininity. The body is both the medium and the subject of her discourse on the feminine. “I like the idea that the viewer deciphers the symbols scattered here and there, the idea of a wink — perhaps to spark questions or smiles about our current society. I also hope to show the persistence of certain archaic notions — outdated, yet still present in our collective memory.”
