“Historical Fiction” is a term applied to novels. I have often wondered as a reader, did this really happen, how does the author know what happened? The term “Visual Historical Fiction” applies to the images I create. Inspired by research the images depict reality, partial reality, entirely imaginary scenarios for the creatives I most admire, and who have surprising connections to one another. I have been focused on lesser-known works by George Balanchine.

Romeo and Juliet was choreographed in 1926 for the Ballet Russes by Nijinska and Balanchine. Nijinska was responsible for acts one and two.

Balanchine was responsible for the entr’acte. The curtain for the entr’acte revealed only the lower part of the dancers, the audience believing it was a mechanical failure. It was not.

3. Romeo and Juliet and Surrealists

At a performance in Paris, surrealists, led by Andre’ Breton and Louis Aragon, threw thousands of pamphlets into the audience,

criticizing Jean Miro and Max Ernst for their participation in bourgeois Russian ballet.

The artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.
