Cette expérience a-t-elle été utile ?
These collaged postcards were made in the spirit of the exposition's motifs of correspondence, memory, and travel. I firmly believe that when we experience new places, we take parts of that place and its culture back with us, and leave parts of ourselves there. As we continue to explore new locations, people, and cultures, our sense of self and our place in the world is shaped through the fragmenting and reconstructing of ourselves through these new experiences and memories.
When we share these experiences on the limited space of a postcard, we are forced to further fragment, which preserves only the most essential and lasting notions of what we gained from the trip; and leaves everything else unsaid or on the cutting room floor. The fractured nature of these collages are meant to mimic not only the incompleteness of these retellings but also the search for our 'true' place amongst the many spots we've left pieces of ourselves.
