A major focus of my artistic work is maps. Sometimes I use analog materials and process them using traditional methods, while other times I use available maps from the internet as source material for analog work.

Through a conversation with a cartographer, I learned that AI is playing an increasingly important role in cartography, or so-called "remote sensing":

- Satellite images are compared, resulting in an interpretation or verification of what was photographed.

- Individual satellite images are combined to create a coherent whole.

Currently, as a recipient of a state scholarship from the Free State of Thuringia, I am working on the GROUND TRUTH project. The relationship between digital spatial experience (remote sensing) and analog spatial experience (ground truth) is being explored experimentally and open-endedly through the juxtaposition of orthophotos (flyover images) and physical appropriation on the ground using frottages, found materials, and painting. How do I and other observers perceive and appropriate space? The three postcards are based on photograms. www.bettina-schuenemann.de
