Context

I have included three postcards--all based on postcard poems I have written. I love the form: the requisite brevity, the direct or indirect connection to the image on the other side, the ephemerality, the human connection in the sending. The short poem "History" was stenciled in paint outside the city library--I've included a photo postcard of that poem. It uses the agricultural practices of burning off stubble or plowing it under as metaphors for history, how we erase or incorporate the past. The second is a section from a poem about my brother called "Esau," which appeared in A pooka in Arkansas (2023). The idea of the co-rememberer sticks with me, and I thought it might resonate with the collaborate element of your show. The last is a poem from a series I've been writing about the Trump deportation regime, called "I asked him what he needed." Each poem begins with the phrase "I asked him (or her) what he (or she) needed for the journey," each tiny poem further limited to trimeter, some of them with rhyme or slant rhyme. I will also send you a copy of the chapbook that was published that included the postcard images and poems. You are welcome to give that to someone if they buy that tiny poem card, or keep it yourself. I just wanted to give the card some context in relation to the larger project of postcard poems about the brutality of the Trump deportations.
