Polina Novikova — Correspondances #3

This small series is an interpretation and alternative development to the story of Alice and her adventures in the Wonderland. To me the Wonderland is the subconscious, one’s suppressed reactions and responses to the circumstances of reality. Staying close to the original illustrations by Sir John Tenniel, I am playing with the idea of what my personal Wonderland would look like.

I begin this exploration with a self-portrait scene with my black cat Mao, us taking the roles of Alice and the Cheshire Cat in the original story (“The tree”). “Bunny” and “Forest” are vignettes of the potential stroll in the woods of the Wonderland, with talking flora and fauna. I would very much like to continue this series, inventing new scenarios and developing them on bigger formats.

The artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.
