Delving beneath the surface, altering the human body, and exploring identity and anonymity are central themes in Stefan Gunnesch’s collages. These works capture the viewer’s gaze directly, drawing out emotions and memories from deep within, which can transform into highly personal stories in the viewer’s mind. The composition is built from layers, gradually transforming and abstracting an initial image. The visual language that emerges in these collages is shaped by the interaction of various materials, textures, and both tactile and conceptual layers.
