For me the process of making collage is a meditation. The searching for images, preparing materials, working through composition, methodically tearing, cutting and gluing, all allow me to enter a state of mindfulness that is both relaxing and very stimulating.

I am interested in the fundamental elements of line, shape, color, and texture in source images and rearranging and combining them with elements from other sources to find tension that did not exist before and to discover spontaneous patterns. I am also interested in using whole images, removed from their context, and given a new symbolic meaning by juxtaposition or isolation. This meaning might be apparent to the viewer or be personal to my own internal mythology. Finally, I often make compositions for the sole sake of pleasure, joy, or decoration. Sometimes a collage is just pretty and that’s it.
