CARMEN ESCUDERO GONZÁLEZ — Correspondances #2

My academic and research trajectory is situated within the field of contemporary artistic practices, with a particular focus on textile art. I graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Castilla–La Mancha (UCLM) in 2023, having received an Academic Excellence Scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MEFP) in 2022. I subsequently completed a Master's Degree in Research in Visual and Plastic Arts (2024), supported by a Research Initiation Fellowship, through which I collaborated on the AEMA R&D Project, part of a broader network of archives disseminated by MIDECIANT.

My work has been featured in several exhibitions related to textile art, artistic research, and visual arts, including Drawing in Contemporary Artistic Creation (Cuenca, 2024); Sculptural Intervention in Public Space (Cuenca, 2024); Manual of Good Manners: Learning to Be a Body (Cuenca, 2023); Untitled. This Is an Exhibition (Cuenca, 2024); Exhibition Sketch (Cuenca, 2024); Forget Me Not (Cuenca, 2024); and 8 Metres (Cuenca, 2024).

I am currently pursuing a PhD in Humanities, Art and Education at UCLM (2024–present), while also holding a Collaboration Scholarship in Illustration and Design awarded by the UCLM Foundation (2024). My research focuses on textile art alongside interdisciplinary practices involving drawing, writing, and photography. My recent research explores the domestic sphere and the private space of the home, examining its inherent dichotomies through a gender perspective.

One of my latest publications is the catalogue Women in Art: Amalia Avia Awards (Women's Institute of Castilla–La Mancha, 2025), which brings together works aimed at increasing the visibility and recognition of women artists from the region and fostering new artistic role models. This publication complements others such as Visual Arts Award (Albacete City Council, 2025) and The Locomotive of Time (UCLM Press, 2024).

My work has also been included in several national exhibitions dedicated to visual arts and culture, including Visual Arts Award (Municipal Museum of Albacete, 2025); Women in Art: Amalia Avia Awards (various venues across Castilla–La Mancha, 2025); Awakened: Women, Art and Identity (various venues across Castilla–La Mancha, 2025); and 4Artes (Centro de Historias, Zaragoza, 2025).

My artistic practice has been recognised through several awards and distinctions, including the acquisition of the photographic work The Second Skin I Inhabit, the Home of the Other, from the series The Other Skin (2025); the Student Award in the University Cultural Competition for the illustration Sweet Dreams (2025); and Second Prize in the Photography Category of the 4Artes Competition for the work The Second Skin I Inhabit (2025)
