My work is rooted in the idea of transformation. For more than twenty years, I have explored painting as a process of destruction, reconstruction and discovery. I often begin without knowing where the image will lead me, allowing forms, layers and gestures to emerge through the act of painting itself. My practice is influenced by alchemical ideas such as solve et coagula — to dissolve and solidify — as well as by abstraction, geometry, Far Eastern calligraphy and the organic energy of artists such as Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke. In my recent series, including swing and soul lines, I focus on the tension between chaos and clarity, movement and stillness, searching for a pure visual form within the painterly process.
