Iris Voss — Correspondances #1

Field Cards are my ongoing investigation into whether sound can become post — whether a place can be mailed. At sites undergoing rapid change, I make a field recording, translate it through custom-written code into a sonogram, print it as a postcard, write a short poem on the back, and post it from the site: the entire process happening in the field, in the moment. There is no QR code, no link to the original audio — the receiver must imagine the sound from the image and a few words alone. Each card is a small proof that a place existed, that a sound existed, that change was already underway. Less wish you were here. More wish you could hear.
