Monika Mitkute — Correspondances #1

My artwork is influenced and guided by the world of nature and the folktales I heard growing up. This is combined with the printmaking process I experienced in my art education. Observing the little details of people’s behaviour and the intricate beauty of nature are an endless source of inspiration for my whimsical themed pieces. Whether I’m drawing or painting, the techniques of printmaking are influencing the marks, textures and shapes I make. It’s important to my process to engage with my community as it inspires and stimulates my work across a variety of art mediums (painting, drawing, sculpting, stickers and printmaking).

Detail and hidden elements are peppered throughout the work I create, I want the viewer to be rewarded by the time they spend with each piece I make. Large and small projects offer the same opportunity for exploring this idea, as Iv’e experienced with some of the commissions and collaborations I have worked on. Recently I have started working in book illustration which is a wonderful creative challenge for my artistic growth. Thank you, Monika.
