Nanska van de Laar is a visual artist, choreographer, writer, and performer. Space—both physical and internal—lies at the heart of her work. Through her dance and visual art, she continually explores how the body (or the mind) relates to space, and how it can distort, open up, or allow that space to breathe. Her creations hover between clean, defined lines and organic, intuitive compositions, always imbued with a theatrical sensibility that lends her work its characteristic layering. In every process, she seeks the point of encounter between the inner and outer worlds: between physical dynamism and emotional subtlety, between stark contrast and quiet nuance. These tensions set her work in motion, inviting the viewer to derive their own meaning—not through an imposed narrative, but through sensory experience and personal interpretation. She draws inspiration from whatever presents itself, yet is equally driven by an internal impulse: a desire to push boundaries or to give form to the unspoken. Consequently, no two creations are alike. In every movement or intervention, she seeks connection—between disciplines, between people, and between the visible and the felt.
