These works are part of The Sacred: The Weight of What Remains, an ongoing collection combining materials from my family archives (including letters, documents, and photographs connected to my female ancestors) with objects I associate with these women including fabric, thread, magazine scraps, sewing patterns, books, and tea-dyed paper. Through these layered materials, I explore generational inheritance, memory, and the transmission of knowledge between women across time.
I feel called to share both my origin story and the skills passed down through these women, transforming personal history into a collective act of remembrance. By bringing these images and narratives into public view, the emotional weight of inheritance shifts from something carried privately to something held communally. In this way, these women and their histories are honored, preserved, and carried forward for future generations.
