My work, at the intersection of nature and our built world, tells stories about place. Infused with observation, emotions, research, and layered with spontaneous mark making, I explore materials and surfaces, creating massive black rock outcroppings, a deserted quarry, a scarred mountain face, forgotten spring houses, crumbling walls, faded colors, endless deserts, ribbons of highways, vast ocean views, and ephemeral skies while exploring place. My spirit, infused with views of awe-inspiring landscapes and interlaced with my architectural schooling, guides my hand in transposing and transcribing place on surfaces. Moving acrylic, water, charcoal, dirt, glue, collage, and sandpaper on surfaces, I enjoy the process, arriving at an unknown end. Tilting and swirling paint on a flooded canvas, attempting to recreate an airstream or waves, mesmerizes and challenges me. The uncertain end enthralls me as I create layered stories about place.
