Context
Postcards are often about memories of certain places, so I wanted to explore that idea of memory through the physicality of a postcard.
Traditional postcards often flatten a private experience into something almost universal: with generic photos and the same 5 sentences used. This work transforms the postcard format from a surface into an abstract map of memories. It abstracts memories into organic shapes that are constructed and layered on top of each other. It uses wax, a fragile material that is transient: it will change, melt, crack, or degrade depending on conditions. Like memory, it exists in an evolving state.
