Nina Seidel — Correspondances #2

When my aunt died in 2013, she left us many photo albums. For the past three years, I have used her photos to create mixed media pieces that remember her, my father and uncles, who were all born before or during World War II and have passed away by now. I unite these old black & white family photos with colourful elements such as dried petals or paint, connecting my family history and past with myself in the present. These works also question reality and memory as such; do photos always show what's real? Who is left out of the frame, whose face is covered? And is what we see real or mostly an interpretation?

The artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.
