My artworks are an expression of the intersection and connections between my inner (spiritual) life, daily life and my reflections on nature or built environments.

I work from my inner space outwards to the space that surrounds me. My inner emotional and spiritual reflections find a place in a landscape, which offers me a vehicle to express myself. This complex interplay of visual impressions combined with emotional and spiritual reflection leads to metaphorical paintings, which give substance to my ongoing personal journey to find meaning and spiritual deepening in life. The works can often been read as inner landscapes and I wish the works to feel as an invitation, an opening towards introspection.

I like my work to touch both the personal as the collective, using a visual language which balances between the figurative and the abstract, giving a certain freedom to the viewer. The compositions, the expressive use of colour and my diverse range of mark making are all elements that define my visual language and the character of my work. My mark making, using brushes and palette knives, is moving from energetic gestural marks to precisely observed very delicate ones throughout the different stages of the work process.

Though primarily working on my oil paintings, I am also using drawings and watercolours during the creation process.

My inspiration comes from nature, the philosophy of life, spiritual and religious stories, mythology and mystical places. I transform my inspiration into contemporary interpretations while richly referring to artists through all times of art history such as Caspar David Friedrich, Anselm Kiefer, Joan Mitchell and the old masters. I experience the process of creating as an expression of freedom, inner reflection and trust.
