For my portrait practice I often create multiple images of both the person and his or her environment. An alchemy of layerings gradually illuminates a feeling or a mood that feels authentic and true. An enduring aspect of my portrait work also lies in exploring the power of the fragment as the expression of a person much like a line drawing has a way of distilling someone’s world. A parallel practice emerges out of improvised meanderings through city and landscape, chance encounters with startling configurations of line, colour and form, as well as the intentional placement of objects in interior spaces. These parallel approaches evolve organically into object-narratives in which I explore the paradox inherent in the often indecipherable pulsations of the mind and the vibrating clarity at the surface of the world. Aligning image with text is a primary focus throughout my practice. CRC’26
