Chris Costan moved away from early large scale paintings and into a world where one genre or topic flows to another, going abstract or not, bringing complexity OR simplicity to an idea…an ebb and a flow. Using idea-encoded imagery, suggested narratives and concepts, Costan works on a range of focused series. Using irony, humor, absurdity and visual delight, the striven-for “masterpiece” is replaced by a collection of pieces that form a larger statement.

The mixing of components whether they be unusual objects used in tabletop sculpture, combinations of images or materials in collage, or, video clips and manipulated images in her INSTAGRAM REELS, chance invariably plays a critical role.

In 2019, the artist felt urgency to address current events and began a series of artworks intended for the general public that she calls rogue “Interventions”. These outdoor pieces originated in Berlin (at the Lichtenberg Studios residency in 2019). The residency request was that each visiting artist create an outward facing project in the district of Lichtenberg. To the artist’s unfolding surprise, this 2019 intervention project opened a floodgate of 171 versions which have continued forward to this day.

The artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.
