Daniel Valenza — Correspondances #3

Daniel Valenza works with the found - materials, moments, and oddities. In his photography, Valenza watches for still moments between action and for well used spaces at rest. The fixity of a photograph lets these moments be shared, but also prevents them from resolving. It is left to the viewer to decide what story is being told and how action resumes following the single frame. In his Sound Machines series, Valenza celebrates the beauty of audio components and adds visual curiosity to the act of listening to music. In audio equipment, beauty is often a side effect of better functionality - gold plated jacks and plugs for better conductivity, woven kevlar speaker cones for strength and rigidity. Exposing these components and connection points encourages the viewer to consider the mechanics of sound and electricity. Each piece is a challenge to create an aesthetic and functional device from repurposed materials and objects.
