Kaisa Eiche — Correspondances #1

As an artist, curator and writer, my aim is to communicate emancipating author positions and art projects dealing with social and political pressure and restrictions, and to deal with the problems of the field more broadly. I am inspired by people's contradictions, weaknesses, desires and dreams that they themselves dare not be aware of.

The postcard I sent is a photo titled "I do not raise my son for war". I took the photograph shortly after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022. Its me and my son on the photo. For an entire month, I cried every single day. This photograph was made while thinking of the mothers and children who were living under constant attack, spending their days and nights in basements, metro stations, and bomb shelters. I tried to imagine what they were going through. I tried to place myself in their situation and to feel, however imperfectly, the weight of their reality. I don't want this to become my reality.

This series continues, but for you I will send 2 other postcards from the series "Postcards & Poems". I am publishing my poems under my IG account, you could find some there or ask me directly. These textual and printed elements introduce a more intimate and personal register into the exhibition, creating moments of direct encounter amidst the larger visual narratives. Postcards combine photographs with fragments of poetry, reflections, and suggestive narratives that explore longing, desire, intimacy, me-mory, and emotional vulnerability. Rather than functioning as explanatory texts, they operate as parallel narratives that invite viewers into a more personal and embodied relationship with the work. Desire is approached not primarily as sexuality, but as a broader life force connected to attraction, transformation, curiosity, and the willingness to move toward the unknown. The postcards and poems create a tension between public and private experience.

The artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.
