War diese Erfahrung hilfreich?
After five years of working with the archive, I started to collage his photos together with my own photographs to see how these photos could be used in a contemporary way. For some images, I manipulate maps, photos, and negatives all on the scanner bed to represent how I see Artway navigating through Eastern Europe heading to the United States for a better life. For this Postcard exhibit, I was inspired by his letters home while he was working as a merchant marine. You can feel his strong connection to his daughter Jeanette who ultimately kept his vision alive through this archive. I created an assemblage of objects from the archive including letters, diary entry, stamps, Kodak ephemera, and photos of Jeanette as a child. I printed the images on rice paper and folded them into postcard forms, allowing them to be displayed as sculptural objects. This format reflects my experience of exploring the archive, where each visit reveals a new discovery.
