Livia Marinescu — Correspondances #2

I created these two analogue collages in July 2026, blending together different sensations: a memory from many years ago, and the feeling of a perfume I used to wear, called Le Jardin de Monsieur Li, which always transported me into a special world.

Working on these collages took me back to a specific memory: falling asleep in the Forbidden City in Beijing, after a long day of walking around. I sat down somewhere and fell into a deep sleep unlike anything else I've ever experienced. When I woke up, it felt as if reality itself had changed. I was going through a very interesting time of my life then; difficult, but also full of openings and mystery.

So I imagined the garden of Mr. Li by day and by night, and the titles refer to that perfume and to an otherworldly place.

When I started making collages, one of the first things I wrote about the process was that "collage is perfume made visible."

The artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.
