Julien Spianti, a draftsman, painter, and filmmaker, was born in 1982 in Chartres, France. He currently lives and works in Paris, where he obtained a Master’s degree in aesthetic philosophy from the Sorbonne in 2005.
The deconstruction of space, the dissolution of boundaries between inside and outside, and the disappearance of the individual through the erasure of faces are central aspects of his recent paintings. The figures he stages appear anonymous, concealed beneath a layer of paint that makes their identification impossible without the help of the work’s title or the series to which it belongs.
Only the body seems to be emphasized, as if the artist were seeking to represent limbs and torsos in their singularity, so that neither emotions nor reason become principles of individuation.
Landscapes and interior spaces, often interwoven with one another, also play a significant role, allowing mythological or biblical figures to be transposed into modern society and to become metaphors for contemporary events.

The deconstruction of space, the dissolution of boundaries between interior and exterior, and the erasure of individuality through the obscuring of faces are central aspects of his recent paintings. The figures he depicts appear anonymous, concealed beneath layers of paint that make their identification impossible without the aid of the title of the work or the series to which it belongs.
Only the body is foregrounded, as if the artist were seeking to portray limbs and torsos in what makes them singular, so that neither emotion nor reason serves as a principle of individuation.
Landscapes and interior spaces, often interwoven with one another, also play a crucial role. They allow mythical or biblical characters to be transposed into modern society, becoming metaphors for contemporary events.
