Lucy Spanyol (b. 1957, England) is a British painter whose work moves between figuration and abstraction, exploring narrative, ambiguity and visual psychology.

Built through memory, intuition and process, her dreamlike paintings bring together loose forms, strange figures and an unexpected internal logic. At once playful and quietly unsettling, they resist fixed interpretation and invite the viewer into unstable symbolic spaces.

Spanyol studied at Bath Academy of Art and Chelsea School of Art, where she completed her MA in 1982. Recent exhibitions include the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Royal Watercolour Society Open. She received the Schmincke Prize in 2024, the Daler-Rowney Prize in 2025, and the RWS Publicity Prize in 2026.

Her work is held in collections including Soho House Balham and the private collections of Kate Bryan, Eliza Gluckman and Andrea Arnold.
