Lara Feldman

Lara Feldman (b. 1972, Cape Town, South Africa) is a painter based in London. Working primarily in oil, she draws on personal photographs and everyday encounters to paint portraits, landscapes and still lifes. Friends, strangers and familiar places enter compositions shaped by colour and the shifting detail of memory.

Through gestural brushwork and passages of abstraction, Feldman transforms her photographic sources. Features soften, colours merge, and figures become less clearly defined within their surroundings. Her palette responds to both observation and imagination, allowing a remembered atmosphere to guide the image. Cape Town’s palm trees and soft light recur throughout her work, reflecting her continuing attachment to the city where she grew up.

Feldman moved to London in 2018 and completed the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at City Lit in 2022. Her work has been exhibited in South Africa and the United Kingdom. Selected solo exhibitions include Roadscapes at AVA Gallery, Cape Town (2013), and Traces of Home at Chandler House, Cape Town (2024).
