Yakov Khomich

Yakov Khomich (b. 1997) is a contemporary artist based between France and Russia. Immersed in art since childhood, he grew up in a family of artists and was shaped by an education focused on creativity and visual culture. Initially drawn to cinema, he enrolled in one of Russia’s leading film schools before choosing to fully devote himself to painting.

In 2019, a pivotal moment came when Khomich broke away from academic conventions, embarking on a series of experimental paintings that continues to evolve today. His practice is defined by eclecticism — exploring diverse techniques and visual languages to create unexpected intersections.

Since his debut solo exhibition in Moscow (2019), Khomich has participated in major Russian art fairs, including Blazar (2023) and Cosmoscow (2024), and is gaining recognition among international institutions and private collectors across Europe and the USA.

Khomich approaches painting as a process of intuitive exploration rather than adherence to a fixed style or concept. Beginning with fleeting images, memories, or sensations, he allows forms to emerge organically through the act of making. His work draws on observations of human behavior, childhood narratives, and fragments of cultural memory, often giving rise to archetypal figures and ambiguous scenes that feel both personal and collectively recognizable.

Fascinated by the emotional and psychological resonance of symbols, gestures, and recurring motifs, Khomich seeks not to illustrate but to uncover something essential about his subjects — their mood, tension, and unspoken stories. For him, painting is a way to access the subconscious and bring to light what resists straightforward description
